Cushman & Wakefield San Diego was the proud recipient of four top awards at the San Diego Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards 2019, which took place on April 18 at the Bali Hai. Cushman & Wakefield took home the hardware for the following coveted awards presented by the SDBJ, a respected local news publication: Broker of the Year, Office Lease of the Year, Industrial Sale of the Year, and Property Management. Several of the firm’s brokers and projects were also recognized as Finalists across several categories at the high profile awards event, which showcased the most notable commercial real estate projects and deals throughout the region during 2018.
Taking home the event’s top individual prize, the Broker of the Year award, was Aric Starck, Vice Chair based in Cushman & Wakefield’s Carlsbad office. Recognized among San Diego’s elite brokers, Aric has been involved in many of North County’s highest profile and largest investment sales, as well as lease transactions. He also represents many existing and brand new development projects that collectively comprise some of the best in class properties in North County. In 2018, Aric completed nearly 65 lease and sale transactions totaling approximately 3.3 million square feet (msf) valued over $460 million. He was Cushman & Wakefield’s *Top Producer in San Diego for 2018, and was among the firm’s *Top 100 Brokers companywide.

The Office Lease of the Year honors went to Cushman & Wakefield’s Brett Ward and Michael Cassolato for representing landlord PGIM in a 141,696 square foot lease renewal and expansion at The Terraces to Guild Mortgage. The financing company renewed on 75,970 sf and expanded into an additional 65,726 sf of the building. The Terraces is San Diego’s gold standard of corporate headquarters. Constructed in 2009, the project is a 6-story, 201,661 SF Class A office building with many on-site amenities.
A group of investment specialists across Cushman & Wakefield’s San Diego and Orange County offices earned the award for Best Industrial Sale. Led by Bryce Aberg, Jeff Chiate, and Jeffrey Cole, together with other local professionals with the firm, the team brokered the sale of 14 industrial properties across six projects in Otay Mesa totaling more than 703,000 sf. BKM Capital Partners acquired the portfolio from Stockbridge Capital Group. The portfolio sale was one of the largest transactions of any kind in San Diego County in 2018, and presented a rare opportunity for an investor to acquire a critical mass of real estate in one of San Diego’s most sought-after submarkets. The portfolio was 98 percent leased at the time of the sale to 44 tenants ranging from maquiladoras to regional and national tenants.
The Property Management award went to Cushman & Wakefield’s Lisa Churchill (team leader), Megan Faircloth, Ashley Albarran, Sarah Santos, and Matt Patterson, for managing the newly developed AMP&RSAND project. In 2018, Cushman & Wakefield was selected by project ownership, the Casey Brown Company, to provide property management services for AMP&RSAND, a premier San Diego commercial re-use development and among the most high profile new Class A developments in the county. The brand new state-of-the-art project is composed of two buildings totaling approximately 343,202 sf on 13 acres in the heart of San Diego. The Cushman & Wakefield team has collaborated closely with the Casey Brown Company to help guide the repositioning and renovation of the project, including top to bottom core and shell renovations, a fully upgraded and state-of-the-art central plant, a new energy efficient TPO roofing system, full elevator modernization, EV charging stations, Bluetooth smartphone access control, and more.
